I was first introduced to the wonderful world of crystals and stones when I was 10; my gran came to stay with us in 1963 and she showed me her beautiful amethyst bracelet which she said came from Lourenco Marques.
I forgot the name of the stones thereafter, but remember how I was enthralled by and drawn to them.
Over the next 30 years various gemstone rings came into my possession, either through gifts or inheritance - olivine, tourmalines, emeralds, garnet, citrine, aquamarine, opal and golden topaz, my birthstone. I love the colours of gems and even my engagement ring was made up of champagne diamonds.
It was only in the 1990s that I came across my first crystal shop, while out on audit for my work. It was the most exciting find of my life. The first stone that I purchased was a deep purple amethyst which fitted neatly into the palm of my hand and which I still meditate with today. I started to build up a selection but unfortunately I had a fire in my flat and lost a number of stones and rings. However, I was overjoyed when I came across the Blue House and especially Gaia Crystals, which is conveniently situated in my area. I now have quite a fair-sized collection and spend many fulfilling hours getting to know their attributes and personalities, which are revealed through the energies that they transmit. I am teased by my husband who says I am always bringing rocks and 'pebbles' into the home, but understands that crystals are my passion. (Joan)

I came into your store about a month ago to buy a red jasper stone for my newborn son. He was in neonatal ICU and needed a surgery for an intestinal problem. I got him the jasper, but while at the store a beautiful malachite really spoke to me so I got that one too. When I got home & checked in my crystal reference book it said that malachite was good for digestive issues as well as healing after surgery & red blood cell production. These were all exactly what Harry was needing, and so the malachite & jasper were the perfect team! I programmed them & then smuggled them under his bed that he went to surgery in! He had a successful surgery and has had them under his bed since to help with his healing and recovery! He is still in the neonatal ICU but hopefully will be ready to go home in a week or two. Here is a photo of him with his malachite after his surgery. (Cindy ) |
Dave's Rock Shop is located on Main Street which as you might suspect is what it says it is, the Main Street of this small village of 75,000. There is a subway meters away from it that can take you to Downtown Chicago in 40 minutes or so an ice cream shop, a bakery, a fabric shop, a bank etc. I am sure I had some understanding of semi-precious stones, rocks, gems etc when I first walked into this sea of abundance. But I would have to say without a doubt Dave's really brought me up to speed with fresh water pearls, rose quartz, hemotite, Native American drums, malakhite, crystals etc. I operated a preschool for my youngest son and about 5 other youngsters - Dave's Rock Shop was one of our favorite field trips!
I allow myself to be drawn to the energy of a stone and have made many necklaces from stones found there. I also read on the general properties of stones, how to cleanse, energize them etc. I offer affirmative prayers with them now and have them all over my home to energize it and to offer an environment of true peace and creativity to all who enter.
I could go on and on (I guess I already have) But suffice it to say stones gems precious minerals etc. play a big part in my life and by default all who come in contact with me...
Peace and many blessings,
Mama Nomusa
CRYSTAL DREAM MESSAGE
I consider myself so lucky to have Gaia Crystals situated almost on my doorstep. I didn’t know what crystals were meant for when I began my collection some fifteen odd years ago. I just knew that the colours fascinated me, the crystals I had were very precious and were safest in my clear Ferrero Roche box!
Until I met my knowledgeable friend Jenny who introduced me to her own collection and showed me what crystal healings meant. I started to take a closer interest in my own crystals, got out books from the library and approached the helpful ladies at Gaia to name them all.
Then, a few weeks into my journey of crystal research, I happened to dream of one. In the dream, I found I’d been looking at crystals with my brother-in-law in a shop. I’d picked up a white stone with a bright red vertical stripe in the middle.
I awoke and consulted one of the two crystal books had on loan. The first book directed me to the name, ‘red spinel’. I confirmed the purpose of this crystal with Barbara at Gaia and she kindly enquired if someone needed my prayers. I could only think of my brother-in-laws’ mother who was in a fragile state at home. Barbara then suggested both my brother-in-law and I hold the red spinel and send messages of healing to his mother.
The only problem with that was that he lived in Jhb. So, I smsed my sister to find this crystal and to do the meditation with him. But, as it turns out, she was preoccupied with her own medical tests and didn’t have time to respond.
In any event, a sudden tragedy struck in his family when his paternal aunt lost her life in a car crash. Her husband also traveling with her as a passenger fell into a coma. I only learned of the tragedy this past weekend, and I suddenly realized that the Universe had surely imparted a ‘mortal secret’ to me through placing an unknown crystal in my dream, knowing that I’d recall it.
The prayers we should have said would have been perfect for my brother-in-laws’ beloved aunt - if only we’d known she was the one not destined to survive.
